IDC interviewed 10 customers running ScaleIO software-only and/or VxRack FLEX Nodes. These customers represented a cross-section of industries and were evenly split between enterprises and providers of IT and cloud services. At the time of the interviews, the organizations were using ScaleIO for an average of 96 physical servers, with an average of 408TB of storage and 2,071 virtual machines running in their EMC ScaleIO environments. IDC’s study shows that organizations are deriving significant business value from their investment in software-defined storage with EMC ScaleIO. IDC calculates average annual benefits per organization of $1.74 million and a break even on their investment in eight months.
