VPLEX is a continuous availability and data mobility platform that enables mission-critical applications to remain up and running during a variety of planned and unplanned downtime scenarios, even in the event of a data center site failure. In July 2015, the VPLEX has been SAP-certified for HANA and our engineers have published a great solution guide from which I’d like to introduce 4 use cases to you that solve customer pain points in a great manner.
Use Case 1: You want to replace a complete storage array or migrate HANA systems – for sure everything on the fly and without any business down time? Here you go!
Use Case 2: You have a HANA single-node scale-up and want to have a fully automated SAP HANA host auto-failover to a duplicate scale-up standby node at a safer metro distance instead of in the same rack (Actually a scale out 1+1)? Here you go!
Use Case 3: You have a HANA scale-out with 2 or more nodes and want to have a standby copy for disaster recovery to have a disk copy ready in case of array, network, or application failure? Here you go!
Use Case 4: You want to build a production copy for testing, using VPLEX data mobility jobs to generate restartable point-in-time (PIT) copies of the SAP HANA database for repurposing? Here you go!
Note: If you are now thinking about a use case where you have active worker nodes of a scale-out HANA distributed across two sites… please don’t do it because this is currently not supported from SAP.
All use cases were done on physical HANA, validation for virtualized HANA is also on our roadmap.
