Presentations, white papers, blogs – these are all great sources of knowledge, however one of my favorite learning methods is to get my own hands on systems exclusively provided to me by EMC vLab. The labs are used for SE and partner training, events, customer demos and if you want to get your hands on as well, you can get in touch with your EMC contact who can deploy a lab for you. Thanks to a fully automated process he can provide the link to you within minutes and then you immediately can access the lab through the internet.
To give you an idea what kind of labs I’m talking about please take a look at the 33 labs we had at EMC World here. The global vLab catalog contains more than 125 labs. In 2013 there have been 85,429 vLab demo runs!
The link you have received after the deployment of your lab opens a launchpad that brings you in the middle of the demo. Equipped with a comprehensive demo guide you can now go through the use cases of your interest. These are live environments that can be interacted with and manipulated.
With the support of a great team I had the pleasure to also develop two vLabs with SAP content:
- SAP Application Mobility and HA with VPLEX and vMotion, and
- EMC Integration with SAP LVM
So if you want to see how an SAP system under load is moving from one data center to another one without any disruption then you definitely should take a look at the first vLab. You will also see how VMware HA is working. And yes, this technology is now also available for HANA…
The SAP LVM vLab contains an SAP landscape that consists of an SAP ECC, an SAP CRM and the SAP LVM, an EMC EHAC console, a VMware vCOPS installation and several spare hosts.
Isn’t that great that such a landscape is exclusively provided to you within minutes? And also from a lifecycle management perspective this is a perfect concept because you always have a clearly defined starting point of a demo.
Hope this motivates you to do the one or other vlab. I’ll have a closer look on some aspects of the SAP LVM vlab in a separate post. Meanwhile plan YOUR next vLab!
